What types of commissions do I offer?

  • Scientific Illustration Commissions

Illustrations, figures, or infographics for peer-reviewed journal, magazine, or book publication, or even signage. Allow me to get your message across in an effective, accurate, and beautiful manner!
I specialize in the natural history sciences—such as the flora & fauna, ecology, marine & intertidal life, geography & biogeography, conservation and stewardship work here in the Pacific Northwest. My style gravitates towards hand-drawn/painted elements with a digital composite, however I am flexible. I can adjust according to the scope of the project and your organization's budget.

After our complimentary consultation, we will mutually sign a contract covering all the details. Payment is usually on completion and delivery, however if it's a large or extended project it will be most helpful for me if we can organize pro-rated instalments. Please review my portfolio and reach out when you are ready.

Let’s discuss how I can help!

  • Personal Commissions

I love painting dogs and cats, but would also be interested in a horse, bird, or???
I am also interested in landscapes, seascapes, window views, house portraits, garden scenes, florals, still life… or? Let me know your ideas!

    Paintings in acrylic or watercolour/gouache.

I will work from reference photographs that you or I own the copyright/license to use. We start with a deposit of $150 that secures your spot in the queue, includes our virtual consultation, compensates me for my preparation time, and helps me pick up any needed supplies. If we decide not to work together your deposit can convert to a gift card for my shop.

After you make your deposit my rates start at $4 per square inch, regardless if you choose Acrylic or Watercolour. The smallest I will usually paint is 5x7". (I can go physically smaller but will charge $140, the same as a 5x7" piece.) Due to current size limitations in my small home studio, the largest I can paint is 16×20 in acrylic and 11×14 in watercolour. (Unusually complex and detailed compositions may have higher rates at my discretion.) A 50% payment of the remainder is required when I begin painting; the rest is due when I ship the original!

Painting is a labour of love and a slow and methodical process that takes the time it takes. I prefer plenty of advance notice and flexible deadlines!

If all sounds good to you, please reach out and let me help you put your memories on canvas or paper!
