Mixed Media Art Journaling - Supply List
There are no “Required” Supplies, but here are some suggestions:
I am not super fussy about supplies in most cases. I’ll provide you with options here. You likely have the required supplies already, and the rest should cost you less than $20 at your local art supply or office supply store.
HB OR 2B Pencil & Pencil sharpener
A Sketchbook that you like to use (any size is ok)
(I recommend Opus Essential Mixed Media Sketchbooks, as they are inexpensive, lightweight, and excellent quality paper)
(My absolute favourite if you want to treat yourself is Strathmore 500 Series Mixed Media)Any colour supplies you may already have or one would like to try, in colours that make you happy.
Pens, markers, coloured pencils, conté sticks, soft pastels, acrylics, watercolours, gouache etc.Interesting papers (raid the recycling bin, thrift stores, etc), magazine bits for collage, maybe wool, thread, fabric?
Something to cut with (scissors, X-acto knife)
Something to stick with (glue stick, school glue, ModPodge (matte), acrylic matte medium, rice glue)
bulldog clips or fold back clips (to keep sketchbook open)
TIPS:
Have a look through your own supplies at home before you hit the store.
This page has had most colour removed so that it will be printable in B&W and will be ink-saving on your home printer.
I would still steer clear of the dollar store for most supplies, for quality reasons. Office supply stores should have most of what you need for this course.
My go-to art store is of course Opus since the staff is knowledgeable and keen to help. They also have a cash back membership program.
If you’re splashing out on a bigger sketchbook or a set of colour media, you can usually find a “30% off one item” coupon on the Michaels Canada website. Go to the top dropdown menu and choose coupons, and then you should be able to find a barcode to scan at checkout, or a code to use online.
